Charging Your EV
This page contains basic information on charging electric vehicles (EVs).
Level 1 Chargers
- Depending on what is convenient for you, if you do not need fast charging speeds for your EV, most EVs already come with a Level 1 charger that plugs into a regular electrical outlet and will be able to charge your vehicle for many dozen miles overnight.
- However, you need to ensure that your home’s electrical system can handle charging your car along with other tasks, such as cooking appliances.
Level 2 chargers
- Level 2 chargers require special installation in residential homes, and they can fully charge your EV overnight, as well as adding many dozen miles in the space of a few hours.
- If you’d like to have a level 2 charger, you will need to hire an electrician to get one set up. The electrician will need to make sure your home has the correct electrical wiring and then actually install the charger itself.
